DIGITAL CITIZEN FUND
The BRITE Initiative was founded by the Digital Citizen Fund ( DCF ), a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that supports women and girls in their pursuit of education by providing access to new technologies and training.
Founded by Roya Mahboob to advance female entrepreneurs in Afghanistan, DCF represents more than a decade of experience in delivering digital and financial literacy training programs. DCF established the first IT Center in Afghanistan in 2012. Since then, DCF has launched 13 IT Centers, with 11 in Herat and 2 in Kabul, enrolling 20,000 female students in our flagship program.
DCF alumni, representing a new generation of Afghan girls, have gained international acclaim for their academic and technical achievements, serving as beacons of inspiration and change in their communities. With a young population, half of Afghanistan’s 27.5 million people under 25, harnessing this talent is crucial for the nation’s future. However, recent reactionary forces threaten the progress made in women’s and girls’ education over the past decade. In response, DCF is expanding its efforts, establishing more programs and IT centers in Afghanistan and neighboring countries, including Pakistan. These initiatives focus on education, financial independence, and entrepreneurship for women and girls, grounded in a deep understanding of local needs.
